Long days, warm evenings and the smell of summer in the air are conducive to looking for your favorite entertainment in a light, holiday formula. The time has just come when the cinema goes out to the public space and will stay there at least until the end of the summer holidays. The next movie summer season officially begins, and the offer is as extensive as ever. The first outdoor screening will take place on Saturday, June 11, during the inauguration of the Cinemas on Shakespeare.

Diversity is an indisputable advantage of open-air cinemas in the Tri-City. You can freely juggle the choice of proposals, because the titles awarded at the world’s largest festivals will be available, among others by the sea, in the city center, in your favorite entertainment venues, and even in the neighborhood. The only factor beyond our control is the weather. So let’s hope that he will not disappoint us and will allow you to visit all places with open-air cinema.
A cinema overlooking the rooftops of tenement houses
This weekend, for the seventh time, a unique open-air cinema will be launched in Gdańsk – on the roof of the Shakespeare Theater. The screenings are inspired by the famous “Rooftop cinema” screenings that have been taking place for many years on the roofs of New York City buildings. Throughout the summer holidays, 22 screenings will take place and the most interesting films of the past years will be presented again, awarded and honored at the world’s most important film festivalssuch as: Berlinale, Cannes, Sundance and Venice.
This year’s repertoire includes many popular titles: “On the Rush” directed by the Danish master of cinema Thomas Vinterberg, “The worst man in the world” by the Norwegian director Joachim Trier or an intimate and captivating picture “C’mon C’mon” Mike Mills. Viewers will also see “Minari” directed by Lee Isaac Chung and “Daughter” – Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut.
There will also be books for connoisseurs of musical cinematography: “Songs About Love” Tomasz Habowski with the main role of The Dumplings singer Justyna Święs, “Annette” Leos Carax and “Rhythms of Casablanca” Nabil Ayouch. The organizers once again present the viewers with an attractive program, which can be used from June 11 to August 27, the cost of tickets is PLN 18.

Traditional Summer Cinema in Orłowo
The most interesting movies with a view of the sea
For years, the Summer Cinema in Orłowo has enjoyed unflagging interest, the 12th edition of which will begin on June 27 with the screening of the film “On the Rush”. Sea noise will accompany viewers until mid-August, the organizers have prepared 10 interesting film items, which will be shown every Monday and selected Tuesdays after dusk. Traditionally, entering the beach in Orłowo No. 17 will become a summer cultural center: theater during the day and a cinema in the evening.
Gdynia will also feature catchy titles and eye-catching names: “Gambler” dir. Paul Schrader starring Oscar Isaac, “Riders of Justice” Anders Thomas Jensen or the latest film by master Pedro Almodóvar “Parallel Mothers”. Most of the screenings will start at 21:30, only the June shows will start at 21:45, the cost of the ticket is PLN 14.

Three months of activities in the GCF Courtyard
Until the end of August, you can also use an interesting offer that the Gdynia Film Center has been preparing for three years. “Summer on the patio” is a three-month program of free attractions that everyone can take advantage of – not only the residents of Gdynia. Evening screenings realized in cooperation with leading film distributors will be presented on Thursdays and Saturdays. In June it will be a series of shows “Summer with Against Gravity”. The presented titles include: “Monos”, “Paris Barefoot” and “The Flower of Happiness”. Additionally, special screenings for seniors and screenings with translation into Ukrainian are planned. In the Cinema for Seniors series, the film “Van Gogh. At the Gates of Eternity” will be screened.
Traditionally, especially for the youngest, screenings of “Film mornings” will be presented on almost every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00. The repertoire includes Polish animated series, such as: “Tales from the sandbox”, “Fairy tales and Polish fairy tales” and many others. In addition to full-length film screenings, you will be able to take advantage of art workshops, concerts, karaoke, walks and meetings with artists and other interesting people.

Cinema in Dal.Morze – repertoire
Relax in the Courtyard and the District Cinema
From July 7, the Film Club and Podwórko.art invite you to the second edition of the Cinema in Dal.Morze. The organizers have prepared eight screenings, which will be shown every Thursday throughout July and August at 21:30. The program includes: “Arab Blues”, “Lie”, “Kings of Summer” if “Wedding Toast”. In addition to evening screenings in the open air, a special relaxation zone will await viewers. The price of tickets for screenings is PLN 14.
For the third time, the screenings dedicated to the residents will be offered by the District Cinema, which will present a total of 45 films in 11 Gdynia districts. For almost all Fridays and Saturdays of the holiday, the shows will be held simultaneously at two locations. We will see, among others: “It’s not time to die”the last movie from the James Bond series, “Sonata” – winner of the audience award at the Gdynia festival, as well as hits from studio cinemas: “The worst man in the world” and “C’mon, C’mon”.
In addition, you will be able to smile during the screening of Polish comedy “Soup Nothing”. There will also be titles for older children: “Boy in the Clouds” if “Even mice go to heaven”. First screening on June 24, admission to all screenings is free.

From May, the 100th team also invites to free film screenings, which together with Millennium Docs Against Gravity presents the best world documentaries. Until now, viewers could watch the animation “Experience” and the biographical film “Zappa”, and on June 14, we have a documentary “I’m Greta” about a Swedish environmental activist.
As every year, there must be a summer cinema on the Sopot pier. The repertoire is not known yet, but it is known that the daily screenings will start from the beginning of July and will last until the end of August.
The last word belongs to Kino Ołowianka, which will start its free screenings at the end of July. There you will be able to watch films under the slogan “Different flavors of cinema”.
