Videos based on games with the best opening. These productions broke the bank to start

I guess we’ll agree that the cinema segment based on video games is developing in a very good direction. From year to year, we get better and better rated productions (at least for the most part) and you can actually get the impression that many creators have understood how this type of adaptation and screening should be approached. This allows us to be really optimistic about the future.

Importantly, such feature-length films attract more and more fans to the cinemas. Sometimes it is even difficult to find a free place for the first screenings, and yet a few decades ago it was almost unthinkable. Commercialization of the industry has made the largest brands widely recognizable today and you can make nice coconuts on them. Hollywood uses that, of course.

On the other hand, taking into account the growing level of these works – we also use it. Today I would like to introduce you to the top ten highest-grossing cinematic films based on video games (taking into account only the opening weekend). Due to that recently the new title jumped to first place, it is definitely worth refreshing the entire statement. Let us know which of the following productions were you on during the premiere!

Resident Evil: Afterlife ($ 26 million)

The fourth installment of the Resident Evil series with Milla Jovovich in the lead role is currently in tenth place. The production, for which Paul WS Anderson is responsible, attracted quite a lot of people to the cinemas, and it probably has to do with the implementation of quite warmly received 3D. Of course, the film did not impress, but for many it was the last acceptable in the entire series.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ($ 30 million)

One of Jake Gyllenhaal’s more unexpected roles. The film, of course, was far from perfect, but you have to admit that it turned out really well. We got some spectacular action sequences, some pretty successful fight scenes, and a setting that was definitely impressive. We have not heard of an attempt to continue this story in 12 years, so I think we can safely say that thirty bubbles are definitely not enough to convince the creators.

Pokemon: The First Movie ($ 31 million)

The first full-length Pokemon movie made huge money. And no wonder – bringing the adventures of Ash, Pikachu and the rest of the team to the big screens was a breakthrough event on a global scale. The production enjoys a lot of interest to this day, and I myself – mainly because of sentiment – I am able to come back to it really often. I must admit that it really worked (and by the way, I invite you to the ranking of the best Pokemon productions from theaters).

Rampage ($ 35 million)

I wrote about this project on the occasion of the list of the best-rated films based on games that have ever debuted in theaters (you can find them here). I admitted there that at first I did not even know that this title with The Rock in the lead role was based on the cult game from decades ago. And yet! It turned out really nice, so if you like action movies it’s worth catching up.

The Angry Birds Movie ($ 38 million)

I did not understand, I do not understand and I probably will not be able to understand how creative the creators who translated such a video game into such a successful film must have been. The production won the sympathy of kids around the world and proved that there are absolutely no boundaries in pop culture for the “Wściekły Ptaków” brand. What’s more – the premiere made many people return to the video game itself.

Uncharted ($ 44 million)

Almost the latest production in the list and at the same time one that could not be missing here. Maybe it has to do with my love of the game franchise, but I really had a lot of fun in the cinema. I did not feel the actors who did not fit the roles or the artificially stretched atmosphere. I have no doubts that Sony should provide us with a sequel one day – maybe it will earn even better money?

Tomb Raider ($ 47 million)

Just behind the podium is a film from four years ago, which was based on a different adventure production – this time with Lara Croft in the main role (played, of course, by the phenomenal Alicia Vikander). This title was definitely not perfect and had some mistakes, but in the end it found its audience who could appreciate what the creators had prepared for us. How did it look like with you? Do you remember this position well?

Detective Pikachu ($ 54 million)

The top three opens with a film that surpassed all other positions at the time of its debut – “Detective Pikachu” of course. The creators risked a lot here, after all, transferring fancy creatures to live action screens could have gone both ways. Either turn out to be a huge flop or a success. Fortunately, in retrospect, it was closer to the latter. And although we won’t get a sequel, it turned out well.

Sonic the Hedgehog ($ 58 million)

The second film with the best opening weekend was the first installment of the adventures of Superfast Hedgehog. Surely each of you will remember the way this film went. From a complete failure on the occasion of the first Sonic presentation, through a long and controversial wait, to a loud premiere that met many expectations. The movie turned out to be much better than we could have expected.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($ 71 million)

In this way, we go to the record holder and at the same time the newest position in the ranking. The second installment of Sonic has just debuted, so the result from the opening weekend is fresh and will probably remain unbeatable for a while. A great result and proof that the hard work that happened on the occasion of the creation was not in vain. I guess no one doubts that there will be at least a trilogy here. And good!
